Justin Gates is a Brooklyn-based songwriter, librettist, dramaturg, and performer. A graduate of NYU Tisch’s Musical Theatre Writing Program, Gates continues to work on both of his thesis musicals for which he is the composer - the New England beach dramedy Sawyer Thompson with Colin Gallagher (selected for workshop pre-COVID with the Tisch New Musical Theatre Workshop and Collaborative, Development & Production in 2020), and the Lovecraftian horror story The Place Between with Celine Snippe. Other current works-in-progress include the immersive horror podcast You’re the Last One with Snippe, created through the Sound Lab Residency and in pre-production with the Brick Theatre, as well as Powerful, a new musical comic, and The Bling Ring: A GlamPop Musical with Gallagher. Gates holds his Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, and his theatre work was featured in masterclasses with Jeanine Tesori, Adam Guettel, Larry O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin. His songs have been selected for the Curtain Up Musical Theatre Festival, for the New and Newer Festival in Seattle, and since moving to New York, Gates has had works performed at the Two River Theater in New Jersey, the PIT Loft, and the Duplex’s “In the Works” Series. He is a member of the Dramatist Guild.

Colin Gallagher is a New York based librettist, lyricist, and playwright. He recently received his Masters in Fine Arts at New York University Tisch School of the Arts in the Graduate Musical Theater Program. His thesis project, “Sawyer Thompson” received its first ninety minute reading here and was scheduled for development with the Collaborative, Development and Production through NYU. His first one act was staged at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI where he received his Bachelors in Creative Writing, as a part of the annual One Act Festival. Additionally, Colin received the Bermont Fellowship allowing him to take a master class with Pulitzer Prize winning author Paul Harding. Since then, Colin has had work and songs presented at various institutions such as the Two River Theater in New Jersey and the Pit Loft. He has also written a web series entitled “Unintentional.” He is a member of the Dramatist Guild.
Gallagher & Gates...
...began writing together in the summer of 2018, after they were partnered together in the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch. Sawyer Thompson is the resulting piece, and their first full-length musical.
